Decorative Clips DIY Easy Kids’ Craft

Spread the love

Just because something is utilitarian doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty too.  These clips are made with that in mind.  They are simple to put together and can be used for any number of things (I would love to hear how you use yours).  Here are a few ideas for using these DIY easy kids’ craft decorated clothespins:

  • Chip clip
  • Bookmark
  • Keep papers together
  • Attach a name card to a glass or dish for a custom table place setting
  • Make into a wreath (more on this to come)
  • Hang photos on a string or elsewhere
  • Plant marker
  • Just to make something look pretty
  • Attach mail to your car’s visor
  • Hold your earphone wires when not in use

  • Clothespins
  • Washi tape (colors and patterns of choice)
  • Scissors
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Small pompoms (all one color or matching the washi tape chosen)
  • Paper plate (optional)

Step 1

  • Cover clothespins with washi tape
  • Trim off the excess tape around the edges of the clothespin
Decorative Clips Step 1

For little ones, step 1 may be above their skill level. If this is the case for your kiddo, simply allow them to use something else in the bag to decorate the clothespins. Some options include coloring with markers or crayons, painting using the q-tips, gluing on beads or adding more pompoms. Meet your child where they are, while also challenging them to move to the next skill level. It is important to find that balance and to keep it fun.

Step 2

  • Glue a pompom on the end of each decorated clothespin
  • Allow the glue to dry

Step 3 (optional)

  • Cut the edge off of the plate
  • Cut the middle out of the plate, leaving a ring
  • Paint if desired
  • This can be used as the base for a wreath if you would like to use your decorated clothespins that way
  • To fill out my wreath, I made 24 decorated clothespins total
  • Make it seasonal by changing up the colors. For example, red, white and blue for the Fourth of July, red and green for Christmas, pastels, for Easter…you get the idea.
