I bet you’ve never heard of craft flashcards…Of course you haven’t…because I totally made it up 🙂 As a pediatric Occupational Therapist, I’ve witnessed kids struggle to complete multi-step activities. So, I came up with this brilliant (if I do say myself) way to break down crafts into bite-sized pieces in the form of flashcards.
These are especially perfect for those kiddos who have limited attention spans.
Crafts are such a great developmental tool for kids (improves motor planning, attention span, executive functioning, fine motor skills, language development and more), and using flashcards makes planning crafts for your kids to enjoy even easier.
Just print out a few of your favorites onto cardstock, cut them into the cards with a hole in the corner and place them on a keyring that you can connect to your craft supply bag (which you can fill using our master list of supplies that we stick to for every single one of the projects in the flashcard collection). It’s so simple.
And the best part is that there’s not a screen in sight. Technology is such a great thing, but it’s also nice to take a break from it once in awhile and let the brain explore in other ways. Click the image to learn more about our collection of 100 Craft Flashcards for Kids.

How to make a Preschool Turkey Craft
These cute little turkeys use one of my favorite craft supplies…washi tape! It comes in almost any color or design you can imagine and is relatively inexpensive. I bought enought to make about 50 turkey crafts for under $10. But, if you don’t have washi tape on hand, no worries. Ready until the end for some alternatives when making this easy preschool turkey craft.
SUPPLIES FROM THE BAG
- Brown pattern washi tapes
- Googly eyes
- Scraps of red and yellow construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Markers or crayons (optional)
- Turkey craft printable
Crafting with your kids is the perfect way to instill memories that last a lifetime. And we’re all about getting right to the good stuff of creating together by keeping things simple. Turkey Craft Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Download the Free Printable
- Download the free turkey craft printable.
- Choose a version of the printable to make. There is one that is just black and white to be colors and one that already has the turkey feathers and feat colored (pictured).
- Print out the version you would like to use. We recommend using carstock, but regular white paper will also work.
Step 2: Add the Washi Tape to Your Adorable Turkey
- Grab your washi tape and begin filling in the circle in the center of the printable to create your turkey body. This step is so much fun. We used serveral patterns of brown washi tape.
- You can use a criss-crossing pattern like we did or just tear off random small strips of tape and apply them until the circle is filled in.
Step 3: Create the Turkey Face parts
- Grab your scrap of yellow construction paper and cut a small triangle.
- Then cut the turkey wattle from some red construction paper. You can draw this with a pencil first if you’d like.
Step 4: Assemble Turkey Face
- Use your glue stick to apply the beak to the center of your circle.
- Then put the wattle in place on top of the beak.
- To finish off your preschool turkey craft, add some googly eyes. It’s that easy!
What if I don’t have washi tape?
If you don’t have brown patterned washi tape on hand, no problem! Instead, tear pieces of brown paper or grab some squares of brown tissue paper and treat this craft like a mosaic. Fill in the circle by gluing the scraps in place. Then continue on to steps 3 and 4 to finish cute turkey craft.
For Teachers…
It’s easy to make this simple craft a part of your lesson plans. Weather you’re talking about the first Thanksgiving or using it for other preschool themes, like farm animals, counting the feathers or learning colors, this fun craft packs a lot of punch…perfect for hands-on learning.
I’d recommend using the printable version that you color so that there is more room for individuality and creativity. Remember when coloring to break those crayons to further promote fine motor skills too. Then add the finished products to a bulletin board display for this time of year.
