Fun Facts About Santa’s Reindeer:

  • Another name for reindeer is caribou
  • Though typical reindeer don’t fly, they are very fast…running as quikcly as 48mph.
  • Santa didn’t always have reindeer.
  • Donner and Blitzen used to have different names. In 1823, they were referred to as Dunder and Blixem.
  • Rudolph was not one of the original reindeer and joined the crew about 100 years later.
  • Santa’s reindeer are all girls. We know this because they still have their antlers by Christmas. Male reindeer shed their antlers by early December.

How to make a Christmas Reindeer Card

This reindeer craft is perfect for kids of all ages. For little ones, pre-cut the pieces. Then they can assemble the pieces and draw on the face. Even kiddos who don’t write words yet can draw a picture inside the card instead.

SUPPLIES FROM THE BAG

To make crafting with your kids actually do-able, we stick to a list of basic supplies that fit into one bag for all of the crafts that you see on this site. We never stray from the master list so that once you fill your bag, you’re ready to craft along over and over again, even when time and money is tight.

Step-by-step Instructions:

Step 1: Use the Reindeer Card Template

  • Download the reindeer card template and print it out onto regular paper.
  • Layer together a piece of white and a piece of brown construction paper (or reindeer color of your choice) and place the circle part of the template on top.
  • Cut out the circle shape.
  • Then use the template again to fold down the top of the white circle.

Step 4: Add Details

  • Grab your markers and draw on the face of your reindeer.
  • Also use the markers to add any other details you would like.
  • We also grabbed our white crayon and added some dots to the reindeer’s forehead.

*If you choose, use googly eyes instead of drawing on the deer’s eyes.

Can I send these cards at other times of the year?

Of course! It’s true that we traditionally give cards at Christmas, but a sweet deer is a good idea any time of the year. You can even keep the colors the same, except the red nose, of course.

Can I use other kinds of paper?

We used construction paper because it’s what we always keep in our craft bag, but you can use any sturdy paper. Try cardstock or scrapbook papers instead. You can even choose a scrapbook paper with some pattern on it to give it a unique look.
