I hear from parents all the time that tell me some of the obstacles to making crafts with their kids is the time it takes to prep and the mess. I want to remove some of those speed bumps by sticking to a master list of basic craft supplies that fit into one bag. We stick to this list when making every single one of the creative projects you see on this site.
We’ve even included items that make cleanup so much easier, like newspaper to cover your craft surface and paper lunch bags to pack it all away when you’re done…and NO GLITTER!
Fox Craft Instructions:
Step 1: Paint the Plate
- Lay out some newspaper on your crafting surface.
- Place the paper plate bottom up on top of the newspaper.
- Squeeze out a bit of orange paint.
- Pinch the pompom with the clothespin to create a “paint brush”.
- Paint the bottom of your plate orange and sit it aside to let it dry.
Step 2: Use the FREE Fox Template
- Download and print the free fox template.
- Use it to cut the parts for your adorable fox craft out of orange construction paper and the nose out of black paper.
*For young children, precut the pieces for your fox craft so that they can fully participate.
Step 3: Create the Fox Body
- Once the paint has dried, cut a slit in the plate from the outside to the center of the plate.
- Over lap the plate at the slit so that the plate forms a small cone shape.
- Secure the overlap with a couple of staples.
Step 4: Add Details to Your Cute Fox Craft
- Use your white crayon to add some details to the tips of the fox’s tail and the fox ears and a little on the sides of his fox face. This is a simple and fun way to add character to your fox without getting the paint back out.
- Then glue the nose in place.
- Last, draw on some closed eyes. You won’t need googly eyes for this since our fox is sleeping.
Step 5: Put It Together
- Glue the head of your fox using your glue stick over the slit at a tilt.
- Then glue on the tail so that that it starts under your fox and curls around the top of the body of your fox.

Can I Make This an Arctic Fox?
This can easily be turned into one of our adorable arctic animals with just a few tweaks. Skip painting to make your paper plate arctic fox craft. Then use white paper instead of orange paper for the parts of your fox. Check HERE for more winter craft ideas.
Can I Print the Template Straight onto Orange Paper?
To print directly onto orange construction paper, just cut it to size so that it will fit through your printer. Then print straight onto the paper. You can also use colored cardstock if that’s what you have on hand. You will still need to cut the nose from black paper. It’s the only part of your fox that’s not orange.
