Cute Paper Penguin Craft for Kids (Free Printable)
Crafting is the perfect way to pass the time on chilly winter days. Making this cute paper penguin craft is such a fun way to not only be creative but also practice fine motor skills. Penguins are a great winter crafts theme but are great to make any time of year. Don’t stop at just making this adorable penguin. Make more arctic animals, like these polar bears, this narwhal craft or these paper bag penguin crafts.
I bet you’ve never heard of craft flashcards…Of course you haven’t…because I totally made it up 🙂 As a pediatric Occupational Therapist, I’ve witnessed kids struggle to complete multi-step activities. So, I came up with this brilliant (if I do say myself) way to break down crafts into bite-sized pieces in the form of flashcards.
These are especially perfect for those kiddos who have limited attention spans.
Crafts are such a great developmental tool for kids (improves motor planning, attention span, executive functioning, fine motor skills, language development and more), and using flashcards makes planning crafts for your kids to enjoy even easier.
Just print out a few of your favorites onto cardstock, cut them into the cards with a hole in the corner and place them on a keyring that you can connect to your craft supply bag (which you can fill using our master list of supplies that we stick to for every single one of the projects in the flashcard collection). It’s so simple.
And the best part is that there’s not a screen in sight. Technology is such a great thing, but it’s also nice to take a break from it once in awhile and let the brain explore in other ways. Click the image to learn more about our collection of 100 Craft Flashcards for Kids.

Paper Penguin Craft Instructions:
Step 1: Use the Penguin Template
- Download the penguin craft free template.
- Use it to cut out the parts of the penguin. We used black construction paper for the body and orange paper for the beak and feet.
*If you want the penguins to be a little sturdier, use black paper plates instead of construction paper.
Step 2: Assemble Your Fun Penguin Craft
- Use your glue stick to assemble the parts of your little penguin.
- Attach the penguin’s beak. Then attach the penguin’s feet.
Step 3: Add Googly Eyes
- Now that the beak and feet are in place, add some googly eyes.
- Optional: use a marker to add other details.
Step 4: Add a Washi Tape Tummy
- Finish off your simple craft by creating your penguin’s tummy using washi tape. Tear pieces about 2 1/2 inches long and criss cross them in the center of the body. *You can draw a circle first to make this step a little easier.
- Keep adding washi tape until it forms a white circle for the penguin’s tummy.
What if I don’t have washi tape?
If you don’t have washi tape on hand, simply cut a circle from white paper for the penguin’s tummy and glue it in place. Another option is to paint hands for little kids with white paint to make the tummy to create sweet handprint crafts.
How to turn this into a puppet
Now that you have your penguin craft created, turn it into a puppet and put on a show. All you need to do is add a popsicle stick handle, and you’re all set. It’ll keep your kid busy through the winter months, using their imaginations to tell story after story.
