Step-by-step Instructions:
Step 1: Cut Out a Circle
- Grab a paper plate and cut the center out of it. If there isn’t an obvious indent for you to use as a guide, draw a circle first by tracing a bowl or large cup.
Step 2: Add the Yarn
- Tape one end of your yarn to the back side of your cut out circle.
- Then wrap the yarn around and around the circle until it is covered sufficiently. There will still be plenty of plate showing through.
- When you’re finished wrapping, snip the yarn and tape the end down on the back of your snowman’s head.
This craft is deceptively difficult. It can be tricky to keep the yarn on the circle. So, when making this craft with little ones, cut little notches around the outside of the circle so that there are places for the yarn to grab hold as you wrap it around.
Step 3: Make the Carrot Nose
- Cut a long, thin triangle from orange construction paper.
- Then round out the corners to form a carrot.
- Use your markers to add details as you would like.
Step 4: Create the Snowman Face
- Drip some Elmer’s glue into the center of your yarn covered circle and place the carrot nose on top. Press gently to adhere.
- Now add some googly eyes. We used 25mm self-adhesive googly eyes.
Step 5 (optional): Give Him a Smile
- From a piece of scrap paper, cut out a smile for your snowman.
- Again, use the Elmer’s glue to attach the snowman’s mouth. Press gently to adhere to the yarn.
