Paper Plate Umbrella Craft (It’s a Pouch!)
Those April showers are a reason to celebrate because flowers are soon to follow. Making this adorable umbrella craft that is a pouch is the perfect way to bring in the Spring season. Once finished, use it to carry your special treasures or (my favorite) fill it with some flowers and hang it up.

Step-by-step Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the Umbrella Tops
- Sandwich together 2 paper plates.
- Draw a swooping wave about 2/3 down the plates to mimic the bottom of an open umbrella.
- Then cut on the line that you’ve drawn so that you have 2 identical umbrella tops.
Step 2: Decorate Your Umbrella
- Use your markers and crayons to decorate your umbrella however you would like.
Step 3: Create the Pouch
- Place the cut out paper plate umbrellas together with the fronts facing so that there is a gap in the center.
- Use your stapler to go around the round edge of the plates, connecting them.
Step 4: Prepare the Umbrella Handle
- On a separate paper plate, draw and cut out a cane shape that will be the handle for your umbrella. It should be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide and not include the curvy part of the paper plate.
- Once your umbrella handle is cut out, decorate it also.
Step 5: Attach the Handle
- Next use your stapler to connect the umbrella handle to the top of the umbrella by placing the handle inside and then securing with a couple of staples.
Step 6 (optional): Add More Details
- Grab your q-tip and some paint to add polka dots to your umbrella for a little more pizzazz.
Step 7: Add Your Umbrella Craft’s Finishing Touch
- As a finishing touch, use your Elmer’s glue to attach a pony bead to the tip top of your umbrella.
- Give your glue some time to dry before moving it around too much.
Now that you’ve created your umbrella craft, make another. This time create another unique design. You can never have too many umbrellas.
