Step-by-step Instructions:

Step 1: Use the Free Craft Template

  • Download the gnome craft template.
  • Choose which version you would like to make. There are 2 that are black and white, ready to color and one that is pre-colored.
  • Print the chosen version onto heavy cardstock.
  • Cut out the rectangle shape that is the base for this adorable gnome craft.

Step 2: Cut Out the Parts

  • Cut out the gnome hat and nose.
  • If you chose the black and white version, take some time to design your gnome’s hat and color the nose.

Step 3: Punch Away

  • Go back to the rectangle piece that you cut out and use your hole punch to punch out each of the marked holes.

Step 4: Make the Gnome’s Beard

  • Cut 7 lengths of white yarn, about 10 inches long.
  • If your yarn is thin, double it up.
  • Take one of the pieces of yarn and fold it in half.
  • Place the folded end through the first hole and lace the ends back through the loop. Pull gently to secure in place.
  • Repeat this process until all of the holes are filled.

Step 5: Fluff It Up

  • Now that you have attached all of the yarn pieces to the rectangle, use your fingers to unravel each length of yarn.

*You can also use a comb or brush and run it through the yarn to fluff it up.

Step 6: Assemble Your Gnome Craft

  • Use your glue stick to attach the gnome’s hat to the top of the rectangle.
  • Trim away any excess that pokes out around the hat.
  • Then glue the gnome’s nose in place.

Step 7: Trim the Beard

  • Last, trim the gnome’s beard into a point or oval.

Now that you’ve learned how to make this simple gnome craft, you’re not going to want to stop at just one. Make enough gnomes for the entire garden. Maybe even create a little village for them.

Create a Gnome Puppet

It’s easy to turn this adorable gnome craft into a puppet. Option one is to simply attach a popsicle stick to the back. Just tape it in place. The second option is to create a handle on the back of the gnome’s hat using a pipe cleaner piece that you tape on each end. Leave enough room to fit a couple of fingers up through the handle.
