The only thing better than making crafts is combining creating with reading a good book on the same topic. It’s a great way to also encourage a love of reading.

Step-by-step Instructions:

Step 1: Color the Base of Your Easy Craft

  • Cut the curved sides off of your paper plate.
  • Then turn it over to the bottom (matte surface) and color the surface with your favorite strawberry color.

Step 2: Cut Out a Strawberry Shape

  • Turn the plate over to the other side and draw on a strawberry shape, filling up the center of the plate.
  • You can download the free strawberry craft template for this step to make it easier.
  • Now cut out your strawberry shape.

Step 3: Give It Some Personality

  • Go back to your crayons and markers and add details to your strawberry.
  • Then add some googly eyes and draw on a mouth. A Sharpie works best for this if you’ve used crayons to color the strawberry.

Step 4: Add the Arms and Legs

  • Turn your strawberry over to the back and place a pipe cleaner across the center.
  • Tape it in place to form the arms of your strawberry puppet.
  • Then take a second pipe cleaner and fold it in half.
  • Tape that pipe cleaner to the bottom of your strawberry to form the legs.
  • As a finishing touch, take a green pipe cleaner and fold it into 3 loops so that it looks like the leaves at the top of a strawberry.
  • Tape it in place also.

Step 5: Create the Hands and Feet

  • To form the hands of your strawberry puppet, just roll the ends of the pipe cleaner.
  • Repeat this process for the feet, making the rolled part a little more oblong to imitate the look of feet.
  • Then bend the arms and legs into whatever pose your would like.

Step 6 (optional): Add the Strawberry Seeds

  • As a finishing touch, put little dots of school glue on your strawberry craft.
  • Place black (or white) pony beads on each of the dots of glue to create the seeds of your strawberry.

We stuck with traditional colors for our strawberry, but feel free to think outside the box. Why not create a rainbow colors strawberry or a purple strawberry with orange seeds? This is only meant to be a starting place. Maybe you want to add an outfit created out of paper or give him some hair. There are no limits!

Ditch the Paper Plate

Another approach to this craft is to simply print the free strawberry craft template onto some heave cardstock. Then just use that as the base for your project instead of a paper plate. Do not, however, use standard printer paper. It’s not heavy enough to support the arms and legs.
