Step-by-step Instructions:
Step 1: Color
- Turn the paper plate over so that it is facing bottom up.
- Grab your favorite color of crayon and color the center of plate with that color.
*If you prefer, pull out the acrylic paint or markers. When using paint, allow for dry time between steps.
Step 2: Cut
- Trim off all of the curved sides of the plate.
Step 3: Create the Heart
- On the other side of the plate, draw a heart shape in the center. *There is a free heart template available for this step if you choose to use it.
- Once the heart is drawn, cut it out.
Step 4: Make the Heart Design
- Turn the lovely heart back over to the colored side and begin adding some details.
- We started by going around the edges of the heart and then imitated the Valentine heart candy designs.
You could also use scrap paper to decorate these paper plate hearts.
Step 5: Create the Face
- Now it’s time to give your craft a little love and add a face to your heart project.
- Press on some googly eyes (or use these printable paper Googly eyes.)
- Then draw on a smile with your black Sharpie marker.
Step 6: Add Arms and Legs
- Grab 2 pipe cleaners for the arms and legs.
- Place the first one horizontally across the back center of the heart and use some tape to secure it.
- For the legs, fold the second pipe cleaner into a V shape and tape it to the bottom of the heart as pictured.
Don’t you just love using pipe cleaners? It’s such a great sensory experience.
Step 7: Finish Off Your Easy Valentine’s Day Craft
- Last, it’s time to form the hands and feet of your heart-shaped crafts.
- Roll up the end of each arm to form hands until the arms are the length you like. Position the arms and hands.
- Next, roll up the ends of each leg to form the feet.
- Bend the knees of your cute heart craft.
