Preschool Zebra Craft Fine Motor Activity (Free Printable)

This sweet preschool zebra craft is not only fun to make, but it’s also great for practicing those vital fine motor skills. We’ll be using my favorite craft suppy…washi tape! A little goes a long way, and it’s so versatile. Little hands love to place it and pull it back up again, improving the tip pinch as they do. Old kids love it for its bright colors and designs.

If you enjoy this craft, you’re also going to love making more washi tape crafts, like this adorable frog craft, this cute turtle craft or this bee craft.

Fun Facts About Zebras

  • Our planet is home to three different species of zebra, the plains zebra, Grevy’s zebra and mountain zebra, all three species are native to Africa.
  • Zebras are closely related to horses.
  • Each zebra has unique stripes. Their stripes perhaps serve to dazzle and confuse predators and biting insects, or to control the animal’s body heat.
  • They stay together in small family groups.
  • These cool creatures are herbivores and spend most of their day eating grass, and sometimes leaves, shrubs twigs and bark, too.

How to make an Easy Zebra Craft

This tutorial will give you the basics for how to make this simple zebra craft, but it’s only a starting point. We’re using traditional black and white colors, but feel free to really make it your own. The only limit is your imagination.

SUPPLIES FROM THE BAG

To make crafting with your kids actually do-able and fun (like it should be), we always stick to a list of basic supplies that fit into one bag for all of the crafts that you see on this site. We never stray from the master list so that once you fill your bag, you’re ready to craft along over and over again, even when time and money is tight. Now let’s craft some memories!

Step-by-step Instructions:

Step 1: Use the Zebra Craft Template

  • Download the free zebra craft template.
  • Print it onto white construction paper or cardstock.
  • On the large circle, place strips of black patterned washi tape to mimic the zebra’s strips. We put three coming down from the top and three more angled in on each side.

Step 2: Cut Out the Zebra’s Head

  • Now cut out the circle that will be the zebra’s head.

Step 3: Cut Out the Rest of the Parts

  • Next cut out the zebra’s ears.
  • For the snout and tuft of hair, grab some black construction paper.
  • Use the template to cut out the snout and tuft of hair from the black construction paper.

Step 4: Add Some Details

  • Add some details to your zebra parts, including pink for the center of the ears and some extra strips drawn onto the ears. You may also want to add some nostrils to the nose.

Step 5: Begin Assembly of Your Preschool Zebra Craft

  • Begin assembly by glue the ears in place.
  • Next add the little tuft of hair to the top of your zebra’s head.
  • Last, put the zebra’s nose in place at the bottom of the circle as pictured.

Step 6: Finish Off Your Fine Motor Craft

  • Place the googly eyes right above the snout to finish off your simple zebra craft.

What If I Don’t Have Washi Tape?

Even if you don’t have washi tape on hand, you can still make this craft. Instead of the washi tape, just tear or cut strips of black paper for the strips of your zebra. Follow all other instructions as written.
