• They sleep a LOT: Cats can sleep 12–16 hours a day… that’s more than half the day! Basically, they’re professional nappers.
• Their noses are unique: Every cat’s nose print is different—just like human fingerprints!
• They can’t taste sweetness: Unlike us, cats don’t have taste buds for sweet things. So candy isn’t exciting to them at all.
• Whiskers are super tools: A cat’s whiskers help it figure out if it can fit through small spaces and even sense changes in the air.
• They purr for many reasons: Cats purr when they’re happy, but sometimes also when they’re nervous or trying to feel better.

• Newspaper
• Blue paint
• Large pompom
• Clothespin
• Scissors
• White crayon
• Blue construction paper
• Glue stick
• Scraps of yellow, white and black construction paper

Pete the Cat Paper Plate Craft Instructions

Step 1: Paint

• Lay out some newspaper to manage the mess.
• Pinch the pompom with a clothespin to create a “paint brush”
• Squeeze out some blue paint and paint one side of the paper plate.
• Give a minute to dry and then paint the other side also.

*If you want to skip this step all together or you are crafting with a group of preschoolers, for instance, you may choose to purchase already blue party plates instead of messing with paint and waiting through the dry time.

Step 2: Use the Pete the Craft Printable Template

• Print out the Pete the Cat craft template and use it to cut out all of the pieces for your craft project.
• Be sure to cut 2 identical Pete the Cat heads since we are going to sandwich them together for the top of the mobile.

Step 3: Cut Out the Shoes

• Print the second Pete the Cat craft template (the shoes) and cut them out.
• It’s best to use cardstock if you have it, but regular printer paper will work too.

*If this is a Pete the Cat craft for preschool, you may want to precut some of the more challenging shapes. You know the abilities of your child.

Step 4: Put Together Pete the Cat’s Face

• Let’s put Pete’s face together.
• First use the glue stick to put his big yellow eyes in place. Then add the black center.
• Use the white crayon to add the center of the each eye.
• Last, glue Pete’s nose in place.

Step 5: Cut a Spiral

• Now that the paint has thoroughly dried on the paper plate, cut a spiral shape with the sections about 3 inches across.
• When you get to the center, fold up the middle.
• Also smooth out any sharp corners.

Step 6: Start Putting It Together

• Glue the decorated side of Pete’s head onto the tab that you have folded up in the middle of the paper plate.
• Then take the second cut out head and sandwich it onto the back, with the center of the paper plate right in the middle.

Step 7: Add the Shoes

• Now glue the white shoes in place too.
• For best results, hold the mobile up instead of leaving it flat on the table to decide where the best placement is for the shoes.
• You can fold them down a bit if you want to.

Step 8: Add a Hanger

• Last, let’s give the Pete the Cat mobile a hanger.
• Use the hole punch to put a hole right in the center of the head.
• Cut a length of white yarn about 12″ long and lace it through the hole.
• Last, tie a knot at the end of the yarn.
